English Pub

Scotch Egg

Wow! is the word for Friar Tuck’s in downtown Mystic. If you’re a local, go now because you will be standing in line with the tourists come Spring.

Mystic wins with its recent influx of new and authentic options like this rustic basement tavern. Chef/owners Gary and Amy Hobert set out to improve upon the traditional English Pub. Allow me to say that they did. Don’t expect Whitbread and Bass Ale. The craft brews and riffs on traditional cocktails – like the peppery Manhattan – illustrate what creativity and a good idea can do.

Crunch into a Scotch Egg whilst bread crumbles mingle with perfect egg. Dip it all into a side of rich bourbon gravy … should you so choose.

Fish and Chips

Share a basket of fish and chips over a cocktail. Newspaper-wrapped, of course, with a light batter and perfectly done. House-cut, parsley dusted fries and malt vinegar and ketchup. Oh my.

Dip a crisp cottage chip into a murky bowl of gamy Lancashire Hot Pot. Lamb, for sure.

Old World Manhattan

Soupy. A little greasy: smelling and tasting of England.

One of Mystic’s best executions yet, Friar Tuck’s offers great food, great drink, great atmosphere and a great experience. Ploughman’s lunch. Bangers and Mash. Shepherd’s pie. Burgers – including a vegan option. See it. Savor it. Believe it. Amble down the stone steps. Push open the heavy wood door. Step into the old world. Step ‘cross the pond.
